QUIZ MOD 2.4 Beta 0.6

This is the Quiz mod, originally by Phyron, later updated by Whisper68. Carsten ported it to 2.1 and added much functionality.

It allows your members to create multiple choice quizzes, then release them for other members to take the quizzes. it keeps a high score list, allows for the use of a timer, and has some pretty good coding built in to make it much harder to cheat. (Thanks, Carsten!)

Mod History

04/21/2009 -- Updated to version 2.4

It has been requested that I add the ability to turn this off in the admin center. If any more knowledgeable mod writer wants to give me a couple of clues as to how to do it, I will be glad to do so. This mod is accessed through it's tab or menu button, so I imagine they would need to be hidden to turn it off.

01/24/2009 -- No version change. Minor updates to Quiz.pl to prevent duplicate breadcrumb issue ... thanks to Derek Barnstorm for the corrections! Just upload new Quiz.pl file, no need to uninstall and reinstall the mod itself.

01/17/2009 -- No version change. Added a YaMMS compatible mod file for those who are adding this mod after YaMMS. Otherwise no changes.

01/04/09 -- beta 0.5, this would have worked with 2.3.1 without any updates, but I made a couple of minor corrections that wouldn't affect operating, and added in Carsten's easy tab update method. And minor correction to that file now in zip package.

12/07/08 -- beta 0.2, added Jet Li's language files to main zip and corrected small layout issue.

11/??/08 -- beta 0.1, updated to run with YaBB 2.3, no other changes.

I updated it to 2.3, and added no functionality. It was just tweaked to be able to install. All credit goes to earlier mod creators. Thanks to Jet Li for info on how to add it to the tabs for 2.3 style templates.

It has worked on two 2.3 forums for me, and has been tested by a couple of others. It seems to work decently.

For a demo, visit my science fiction board. You can find it in the link in my signature. (You can see some of the mod as a guest, but to take quizzes or create one, you will have to register for an account.)

If people run into problems, I will do my best to figure out how to fix them, but I am not a coder and do not know how to program perl, so I will not be adding any new features.

If anybody wants new features, the only way they will come to be is if somebody else takes up the ball and codes them.

Personally, I would love to see the ability to do a couple other kinds of questions ... fill in the blank, and word scramble. I wouldn't think either would be terribly difficult, but I don't know how to do it myself.

Try it out, see if you like it, and report any problems! If corrections are needed, I may add in some tweaks which don't affect performance, but match it more closely to current YaBB coding styles. As far as I can tell, this works fine, right now.

Nope. Remember, I'm not a programmer. I don't know perl. I just keep tweaking at the thing until I can get it to install and work on the newer versions, once they are released.

Is there a way to edit the quiz without resetting all the present scores from the previous quiz takers?  In other words, if you find a mispelled word, can this be changed without affecting all the previous scores?

Within the forum? Probably not. (Though you could give it a try if you wanted to see.)

But download the .quiz file to your desktop, edit it with notepad (or simple text for our Mac friends) and then re-upload it, and you can make changes that way.
