Could someone please tell me where the install instructions are for this mod. I checked in the zip and nadda... I'm a Bloody Novice and I've only done 2 of 3 mods so I'm really not all that up on what needs to be done. I'd appreciate any help.

All,

I attempted to install this (excellent looking) mod to my forum last weekend but unfortunately it failed.

I modified my board (using Boardmod), uploaded all of the modified and new files to the respective folders etc. and when I tried to access my forum the page refused to load ... IE simply refused to load the forum at all and with very little error details, however, when I attempted the same in Firefox, it returned the error message :

"The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression."

I then backed-out the Quiz mod, re-installed the un-modified files to their previous state and noticed the following in my YaBB error log :

"Can't locate ./Variables/quiz2.txt in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib64/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/x86_64-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib64/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/x86_64-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib64/perl5/5.8.8/x86_64-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 . ./Modules) at ./Sources/TabMenu.pl line 64."

I'm going to take a look at my Apache logs to see if I can obtain any more information but I haven't truncated these files for some time and they're rather on the large side ... Lips Sealed

In the meantime, does anybody have any ideas as to why my installation of the Quiz mod didn't work ?

I have the following mods already installed and working without any problems :

"Users Today"
"Event Calendar"
"Contact Page"
"Donation Page"
"Social Bookmarks"

Thanks ! Smiley

Ok, so it would appear that there is a Perl module missing from the server.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what it might be ? I'm guessing a compression module ?

Any help would be appreciated to have this mod installed. Smiley

Thanks !

I don't know, it says it can't find quiz2.txt ... you might try creating a text file by that name in your variables directory with only 1; in it ... YaBB is supposed to create these files on the fly, but for some reason once in a while it fails to do so. Maybe having the file where it expects it will help it to function.

As to compression, I don't think the quiz mod makes any use of compression.

Many thanks for the reply, batchman. Appreciated. Smiley

I will have to re-install the mod to see whether it's actually creating the file quiz2.txt or not.

With my limited knowledge or Perl, I believe the @INC (Perl library path goes here) error is usually due to missing module and the file that was involved is referenced in the error message. Also, in my Apache error log, there is the line :-

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

Which proceeds @INC ... line. As for compression, the only two modules that I don't have installed (and up until now, wasn't particularly bothered about as I don't use the functionality that YaBB states they provide) are :-

Net::SMTP::TLS
Compress::Bzip2

Anyway, I shall take another look when I have a moment as this really does look like an excellent mod. Smiley

Thanks again for the feedback.

I installed this mod and it seems to be working. The only thing is I have to call the settings page directly in the browser. A link to it does not show on the AdminIndex.pl page. It just shows a blank spot where the link should be. Any suggestions?

Nevermind. Had to upload Languages/English/Admin.lng.

Seems like everything is correct now.

One other note: As mentioned earlier by batchman, if you dont uplaod /cgi-bin/yabb2/Variables/quiz2.txt then it kills the forum. Atleast it did for me. Once I placed a file named quiz2.txt in the variables folder, everything was OK.

Oh. did I mention that I appreciate the mod, Batchman? As well as all the other mods that you all work so hard on.

Many thanks..

Thanks for the kind words ... I just liked using the great mod which others created, and have gone to the work for a couple of years of keeping it current ... or badgering other very kind and helpful people to keep it current with me.

So actually more thanks go to others than to me. But again, thanks for the kind words.
