@AK108: Yes, the Change Mod Status function is already built-in to BoardMod by using CTRL-*click*... but it's documented in the seventh paragraph of the Readme.txt file.  How many Average Joe users (I'm generalizing for new and/or casual YaBB/BoardMod user, I'm not specifically talking about you, I or the YaBBForum/BoardMod regulars who already know about this function) actually read the Readme.txt completely... and skim over a small paragraph in the middle of the document? Undecided

I'm not asking for a new function, I'm asking for a more user-friendly and obvious ways to access an existing function. Smiley

  • Buttons to View and Edit the install.log file.

  • Already added to BM3.

  • Also the ability to right click on a mod in the mod list, and click "Add To Install Log", handy for those mods that were installed manually.

  • I agree here. A context menu with install, uninstall, force install, force uninstall and "edit mod" would be nice.

    Yeah, it'd still be nice. I'd like the mod editor for Linux, though, or at least it to be able to spawn the editor of my choice Grin

    Just one Question, as i read here my suggest for boardmod (multiple YaBBs) is already in the Vs3, great!

    But what can i do in the mean time? What files must be backuped to handle multiple YaBBs?

    The easiest way to handle multiple YaBBs is to have multiple BoardMod installations.

    There is no such feature because it makes mod inreversable, so you'd not be able to uninstall it.

    what do you mean, inreversable?
    if i just want to replce all the instances of, for example:
    Code
    Select All
    <yabb moderators>

    with the following:
    Code
    Select All
    <!-yabb moderators-->

    why it would be inreversable?
    why don't you just make some Advanced options submenu, so that other features (may be even quite dangerous, like that one) whould be available as well?  Tongue

    The tags available right now always have to be "atomic", you'd notice immediatly if another mod changed code used by another mod. Now imagine a mod removes/changes one instance of those you want to match - you wouldn't notice it when applying the mod. Everything looks alright but in fact some parts went terribly wrong. Of cause it's would be an option to offer such "dangerous" tags in some kind of "advanced menu". But it's not a high priority for now.

    I've found that the majority of the mods I have on my Forum have required manual installation. I actually don't mind doing things that way... but what I'd like to see is some method to run the automated install until it breaks, manually install the parts that need it, and continue with the automated install. Probably a pipe dream I know... but I figured I mention it nonetheless Smiley

    Not sure how close to Curtiss' idea this is, but... how about BM3 handling more than one install.log at a time?

    Such as one install.log per mod folder.  Like right now I create multiple Y2 folders, like Y2.1 01.28.06 and Y2.1 01.14.06 for example.  If the install.log could somehow have a hook to a specific folder or the install.log working from:

    C:\Program Files\BoardMod\Mods\Y2.1 01.28.06

    instead of...

    C:\Program Files\BoardMod

    Right now I manually go into C:\Program Files\BoardMod and rename the different install.log files as I need them or back them up.  Would be very handy for BM3 to address install.log files in a new way. Wink

    Outumuro - that's exactly what one of my suggestions was.   Grin  Michael says that that's already built in to the new version he's working on.

    Michael - one more idea, that sort of goes along with the context menu idea:
    Do you think it would be possible for you to create a registry file to register the "mod" extension with Windows, and then add a context menu to Windows itself, so you can right-click on a mod file in Windows Explorer, and have the option to somehow automatically install that mod or open it in YaME?  Just a shot in the dark there.  I honestly don't know how much work it is to put something like that together.

    Currently using Y2.3 With no mods (though that will hopefully change, soon).

    I think it would be enough if you could start Boardmod out of YaME, because YaME already registers itself with .mod files  Cheesy

    @Curtiss: Ah okay, I thought you had.  I tried re-reading the thread last night, but was tired and missed it. Grin

    Like the Windows idea.  Just have to be careful, several media players also use the .mod extension... if I double click any YaBB/BoardMod .mods, they try opening up in Winamp. Grin

    Adding BM3 to the Open With/Choose Program would be nice too. Smiley

    I would like the .mod extension to be added during the installation instead of manually also added to the new context menu
